Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) Form
Greenfield Center School

The Greenfield Center School wishes to offer its students access to technology and the Internet. The value of familiarity with technology in today's society is easily recognized, and the value of information retrieval through access to the Internet is an important addition to classroom research.

Access is a privilege and, as such, entails responsibility on the student's part. The conditions of use listed below were created collaboratively by students and teachers of the Greenfield Center School. Please read them carefully and discuss them with your child. Call us if you have questions, sign in the space provided, and return this document to the office.

Always act respectfully toward your fellow users

  • Make sure you share the resources with your fellow students so that everyone who needs to gets a turn on the computer or the Internet.
  • Do not change system settings without discussing these changes with the teacher.
  • Be aware of legal issues
Information found on the Internet should not be claimed as your own.
  • Respect and obey copyright laws.
  • Use of e-mail for fraudulent purposes resulting in tangible damages (i.e. placing an e-mail order in someone else's name or using someone else's credit card number) is considered to be criminal damage.
  • Use of e-mail for fraudulent purposes resulting in intangible damages (i.e. betrayal, deception) is considered to be civil damage.

Always use the Internet safely and with caution

  • When publishing on the Internet do not use your full name.
  • Never give out your full name or address in chat rooms or in e-mail correspondence.
  • Never meet, in person, anyone that you connect with on the Internet, without a teacher or parent present.

Use equipment appropriately and with care

  • Treat the computer area and equipment with care.
  • Do not eat or drink in the computer area.
  • Do not waste paper or printer cartridges.
  • Download executable (program) files from the Internet with caution and teacher knowledge. Pictures should be ok.

Be aware of personal accountability and ethical use

  • Do not access other people's files, folders, passwords, or e-mail without their permission.
  • Use the Internet for educational purposes only unless it is ok with teachers to visit games or such sites just for fun.
  • Do not access, knowingly, pornographic or hate sites.
  • If pornographic or hate sites are accessed by mistake, exit immediately and notify a teacher.
  • Never access a chat room without permission of your teacher.
  • Always be thinking, "Is this site or chat room appropriate for school?" Or, in other words, if a teacher or my parents saw what was on the screen would they think it was appropriate for school?

We have read, discussed and agree to abide by the AUP.

We understand that computer privileges may be revoked if the terms of the AUP are violated.
