RIGOROUS EDUCATION FOR DEEP THINKERS AND CREATIVE SPIRITS. PRESCHOOL-8TH GRADE. EST. 1981
Center School parents are active participants and thoughtful partners in their child’s education. The Center School’s warm environment encourages parent engagement and involvement. We believe we cannot know your child unless we also know you. We have a vibrant community of families with a variety of social and professional backgrounds, but the common denominator for all Center School parents is a deep desire to see their child happy, confident and engaged in their school environment.
The Center School Parent Union is our version of a PTO. There are a wide variety of ways you may choose to get involved.
As the board liaison to the Parent Union (the Center School version of a PTO) I focus on community building, and helping people direct their energy and resources to support the school. I meet with Charlie, the Head of School, in late summer to set the goals and calendar, and then throughout the year we work to match people’s talents and abilities with the tasks at hand. It is simply amazing how much we accomplish each year with minimal resources, simply because of the ongoing generosity of family and friends.
How can you get involved? Good question!
We’ll start with getting a list of volunteer jobs to everyone at Open House (back to school night). In addition, read the weekly bulletin.
The events for the upcoming year are outlined below, but details and dates will continue to evolve. I look forward to meeting you at all-school, at an event, outside the classroom, on the playground, in the carline, at Rumpus, on a field trip, or at a work day…
This is an overview – please see the school calendar for official dates.
ALL SCHOOLS Please come to all-schoolmeetings on Friday mornings at 8:30am. It’s a great way to learn the songs, see what the children are learning, and to meet more parents and teachers.
PARENT COFFEES These are monthly socials usually held in the brick building, and advertised in the bulletin as well as a car-line sign. Another place to meet parents and check in with the Head of School.
ALL SCHOOL WELCOME This is what other schools call Back to School Night. We have classroom time and also a gathering of all parents with the Head of School.
FALL WORK DAY 10am-2pm. Mike, our caretaker, does an amazing job keeping our school beautiful and functioning. But each spring and fall the Building and Grounds Committee identifies a few of the giant tasks. Last fall we spread ‘mulch mountain’ over the entire playground! Many hands make light work.
Open House This is an amazing all-day admissions open house with activities in each classroom of the brick building. We have delicious food, demonstrations, and more!
CITRUS SALE November/December. Organic oranges and grapefruits just in time for the holidays. This is a school wide effort to support our integrated arts and technology budgets.
