Where I’m From in the Mups (2nd/3rd)
The Mups have been engaged in a profound exploration of identity and belonging through their recent Theme unit on Migration. Through heartfelt discussions, personal reflections, and creative expression, they have delved into the complexities of their own stories and the diverse experiences that shape their identities.
Throughout the winter and spring, the Mups delved deeper into the themes of identity and belonging, exploring the ways in which migration and displacement impact individuals and communities. They empathized with the experiences of those who have been forced to leave their homes and grappled with the challenges of finding a sense of belonging in new surroundings.
Guided by our pedagogical approach, students engaged in a multi-step process to develop their "Where I'm From" poems, diving deep into their memories, heritage, and family stories to unearth the essence of who they are. Through multiple drafts and feedback sessions, they honed their language skills while cultivating a deeper appreciation for their own cultural backgrounds and personal narratives.
Inspired by their poems, students embarked on the creative journey of crafting their own dioramas, transforming simple shoe boxes into vibrant reflections of their unique identities and experiences. With boundless imagination and resourcefulness, they brought to life scenes that spoke volumes about their roots, values, and connections to their communities.
In a culminating project, the Mups will share their "Where I'm From" poems and dioramas with the Center School community during Museum later this week. We invite you to join us in celebrating the remarkable achievements of our students as they proudly showcase their creative expressions and share their stories with the wider community.
Through projects like these, we continue to nurture compassionate, confident, and culturally aware individuals who are prepared to navigate the complexities of the world with grace and resilience.
