PreK/Kindergarten Co-Teacher (Full-time, beginning August 2026)

The Center School is a progressive, independent day school (Toddler–8th grade) in Greenfield, MA, offering rigorous education for deep thinkers and creative spirits. We are a loving community that celebrates each child's unique personality, intelligence, and passion — balancing academic rigor with rich, joyful play. Our constructivist approach puts children at the center of their own learning, with teachers serving as guides and facilitators who co-construct knowledge alongside students. Social and emotional learning, a commitment to social justice, and deep respect for the full range of learning styles are woven into everything we do.

We are seeking a passionate, creative co-teacher to join our mixed-age PreK/Kindergarten classroom. This teacher will be a full and equal partner in a two-teacher team, sharing in the design and facilitation of an emergent, play-based curriculum that honors children's natural curiosity and sense of wonder. Our youngest learners spend ample time outdoors — including regular woods adventures — exploring materials, building, storytelling, cooking, and imagining together. The ideal candidate brings both warmth and pedagogical depth, and genuinely delights in the energy and magic of four- and five-year-olds.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a deep understanding of the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of PreK and Kindergarten-aged children

  • Bring experience with play-based and emergent curriculum, and the ability to follow children's interests while holding clear developmental goals

  • Thrive in a co-teaching model, sharing planning and responsibilities equitably and remaining genuinely open to collaboration and new ideas

  • Demonstrate a commitment to social justice, anti-bias education, and inclusive practice

  • Communicate skillfully and proactively with families, colleagues, and the broader school community — in both written and oral forms

  • Document student learning thoughtfully and use multiple means of assessment to understand and support each child

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Education or Early Childhood preferred

  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching PreK or Kindergarten-aged children

  • Experience supporting foundational literacy and early academic skills within a play-based framework

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, including work related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

Responsibilities:

  • Co-plan and co-teach a full daily program for a mixed-age PreK/K classroom, integrating academic, social-emotional, physical, and creative learning

  • Design and implement emergent, responsive curriculum grounded in The Center School's constructivist philosophy

  • Foster a warm, inclusive classroom community where every child feels known, valued, and excited to learn

  • Lead and participate in outdoor learning experiences, including regular time in our woods space

  • Observe, document, and assess student growth using multiple strategies; write narrative progress reports

  • Communicate regularly with families and participate in parent/guardian conferences

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the early childhood program and the broader school community

  • Participate actively in school-wide meetings, professional development, and community life
