Statement from the Board of Directors Regarding the Future of the Center School

It is with profound sadness that the Center School Board of Directors announces that the 2026-2027 school year will be our final year of operation. The school will close at the end of June 2027.

This is an extraordinarily difficult decision for a community that means so much to all of us. The Board reached this decision unanimously after an extensive examination of every possible path forward. Over time, declining enrollment, rising operating costs, significant annual fundraising needs, and the financial burden of our building have created circumstances that are no longer financially sustainable.

We are announcing this decision in early October because we believe our students, families, and staff deserve time and support as they plan for what comes next. While the school’s doors will close next summer, we are committed to making this final year one that reflects the very best of the Center School: a place where children are known, valued, challenged, supported, and loved.

The Center School is more than a building or an institution. It is a community built over decades by extraordinary educators, students, families, and friends. Its legacy lives in the curiosity, empathy, independence, and kindness that everyone who has graced our halls carries with them into the world.

Throughout this final year, we will remain steadfast in upholding our mission and supporting our community through this transition. We will also continue exploring ways to preserve and extend the spirit of the Center School beyond June 2027.

We are heartbroken to bring this chapter to a close, but we are profoundly grateful for everyone who has helped make this remarkable school what it is. We remain committed to a beautiful year of community and to the celebration of the legacy we have built together.
