Fall, a time for change
Dear Center School Community,
Fall is a time for change, and change is certainly in the air here at the Center School! As many of you know, Charlie announced back in June that she would be stepping down as Head of School at the end of this school year. However, she has decided to step down earlier than expected, and with that decision, the Board instated us (Lauren and Amanda) as Interim Co-Heads as of the end of last week. This means we’re stepping into these roles a bit earlier than planned, but the overall interim timeline remains the same.
Since Charlie’s announcement in June, the Board has been working hard on a transition plan that feels right for the school. They’ve decided to have interim leadership in place through June 2027. This might sound like a long time, but it’s carefully aligned with our re-accreditation process with the Association of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE). We’re currently in the midst of this self-study, which will wrap up with a re-accreditation visit at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
This process gives us the chance to reflect deeply on who we are as a school—what we’re doing well and where we want to grow. When the visit is complete, we’ll have a clear road map for the next ten years, created with input from teachers, staff, families, students, and the Board. It’ll be a great tool for us, and it’ll also help guide our search for a permanent Head of School during the 2026-2027 school year.
We’re so grateful for the trust that has been placed in us, and we’re honored to support our community through this transition. We look forward to working together with all of you as we take on this next chapter for the Center School!
With warmth and gratitude,
Amanda & Lauren
Interim Co-Heads of School
