Spring traditions
Dear Center School Community,
Despite today’s cool, gray weather, spring has truly taken hold at the Center School. Over the past two weeks, our community has come together to celebrate a number of meaningful spring traditions, each highlighting the creativity, dedication, and growth of our students.
We began the season with 8th Grade AP Night and were truly impressed by the depth and originality of the students’ Ambitious Projects. From stand-up comedy and puppet-making to playing and arranging music, writing poetry, painting, animation, and even training a horse to pull a cart, the range of work was remarkable. One project explored how farm animals respond to live music! While the projects themselves were outstanding, the true highlight was hearing students reflect on their experiences. They spoke thoughtfully not only about their successes, but also about the challenges they encountered and the lessons they learned along the way. Their insight and perseverance were genuinely inspiring.
Last Thursday, we continued our celebration of learning with the annual Museum of Student Work. Each student contributed a piece they felt especially proud of, resulting in a vibrant and diverse showcase. The exhibits ranged from cookbooks and biographies to drawings, building projects, upcycled clothing, and original board games. Students also offered creative interpretations of the schoolwide prompt, “purple cats and dogs,” adding an extra layer of imagination and playfulness to the event.
That same morning, we welcomed approximately 100 grandparents and special friends for a joyful time of learning, reflection, and connection. It was a pleasure to see our youngest students sharing music class with their visitors, while older students proudly guided guests through familiar routines such as Morning Meeting and math class. The sense of community and pride was evident throughout the building.
Spring is truly a special time at the Center School!
Be well,
Amanda Richard
